Market Trends: Looks We Love!

A few weeks ago, we went down to High Point, North Carolina for the design market to see some of our favorite lines display their newest collections.  Usually, we leave with so many inspiring new ideas that it takes a few days to decompress and sort through all the wonderful pieces we saw.

This year, however, we just can’t stop thinking about all of the amazing colors on display at every showroom.  High Point was fully in bloom with some of the brightest, crispest, and most vibrant colors I’ve seen to date.  It seemed for a bit there that muted tones were really taking over, but now the biggest trend looking forward are these stunning, show-stopping hues… and we couldn’t be more excited about it!

We’ve put together a list of some of our favorite on-trend pieces, and we hope you enjoy them as much we do!

Pattern Mix Like a Pro

Whether you are trying to put together a fashionable new outfit or a fun new room design, pattern mixing can seem like such a daunting task.  You may love the look of mixing patterns, but where do you even begin?  How can you tell what patterns will work together, and which will clash?

Once we show you a few of our favorite tips, you’ll be mixing patterns together like a pro!

A great way to start with your pattern mixing is by pairing florals and stripes.  Here, you can see that the vibrant floral wallcovering meshes so nicely with the striped rug in front.  They’ve even gone the extra step and added more patterns in their throw pillows to tie the look together using two common colors: pink and black.  The wallcovering, rug, and pillows all have these two colors in common, which creates a nice harmony between the three very different patterns.

Cole & Son, Lee Jofa

Again, we see a strong harmony between the colors in each pattern in this bright, beautiful space.  The floral print on the wall is complemented beautifully by the boldly striped couch, and framed by curtains using the same pink and orange hues.  Stunning!

Diane Von Furstenberg, Kravet

Another beautiful way to mix patterns is to go monochromatic, using the same color in each one.  By using the same light blue in each pattern, this bedroom is simple and in perfect harmony.

Curated Kravet

If the monochromatic look is too mellow for you, pairing complementary colors is a great way to introduce different colors together.  Again, you can see how beautifully florals and stripes mix!

Surya

I love this dining room from Serena & Lily for so many reasons, and the way they’ve mixed blue-based patterns together is definitely one of them!  The napkins draped from the chair backs show you how versatile the look is when you have a base of stripes and polka dots to build off of.

Serena & Lily

If you like the feel of a monochromatic space, but want to add small pops of color, here’s a great example of how to pattern mix in the same color family.  Here, you see several different patterns and textures all meshing together perfectly because they are all soft, cool tones.

Jeffrey Alan Marks, Kravet

This bright and sunny living space shows off a more complex mix of patterns, but the commonalities are still the same.  The wall, couch, and rug, while all very different in design, still have the same vibrant pop of blue that threads them together.

Anthropologie

A classic mix, bold black and white stripes work great with a patterned rug.  I especially love the way that the black stripes really make the rug border pop!

Anthropologie

Another classic style, black and white is one of the easiest ways to mix several different patterns.  Bedding, lamps, and accessories are all tied together by the same two bold colors.  Not to mention, the options for adding in pops of color are endless!

Hopefully you’ve learned a few tricks to start pattern mixing on your own- start simple, and the more comfortable you get with it, the more fun you’ll have mixing different patterns together!  What will you try first?  Let us know in the comment section!

Palm Springs Inspired Design

I just returned from a fabulous (and oh so warm!) trip out to the west coast to see Jillian.  After some San Diego fun time we headed East to Palm Springs for a little desert getaway.  There is so much beautiful mid-century modern design, at times I really felt like we traveled back in time!  We also stumbled upon an exhibit from Desert X – a house made entirely of mirrors, inside and out.  It reflected the mountains and desert in such a unique way!

Palm Springs is a beautiful, funky little town amidst this grandeur.  From the hotels, to the houses, shops, and art galleries, it seemed that everywhere in Palm Springs was rocking that amazing retro look!   Combing the mid-century style with bright colors, prints, and shiny metals, really ties the look together and gives it a more modern flare.

You don’t have to go to Palm Springs to get the look.  Here are some of our favorite vendors and their takes on mid-century modern.   What do you think of these looks?

Our Favorite Spring Tablescapes for 2017

My 2 least favorite months of the year are February and March.  I’m tired of the cold, sick of my winter tablescapes, and generally feeling gloomy.  Starting to “dewinterize” the house perks me up, and one of the easiest to do is the table.

I love the soft pastels, vivd greens, flora, and fauna that come along with warmer weather and lots of sunshine.  So, with one foot still in winter and one on its way into spring, you’ll find all of these things in my favorite Springtime tabletops!

Whether you’re gathering ideas for your own table decor or just enjoy seeing all of these lively designs, we hope you enjoy our gorgeous collection of Spring tables capes as much as we do!

Color Feature: CANARY

After watching all of the glitz and glamour of the Golden Globes, I have not been able to stop thinking about some of the absolutely stunning yellow dresses we saw on the red carpet.  Yellow is such a vibrant, warm, and inviting hue that always seems to brighten up any face… or space!

Between all of the snow and crazy weather we’ve been having, it just seemed like the perfect time to look through some of my favorite canary yellow products, and share them with you all to help breathe a little bit of spring into your home!

While a vibrant yellow may be overpowering, I love it for an accent wall like this one!  Pops of canary in pillows and flowers tie the whole look together in such a gorgeous way.

A dish like this is almost too pretty to be covered up with anything on it!  The perfect happy addition to any table.

One of my favorite things about Le Creuset cookware and KitchenAid mixers are all of the fun colors they come in.  Especially these ones!

Around your house, pops of yellow can be just what your space needs.  Perhaps a vase, candle holder, or fruit basket?

With Jillian out in California, we see so much of this laid-back, boho design.  Come to think of it, I could easily see most of these items finding their way into her house!

It doesn’t get much more laid-back than a tropical tapestry like this one.  I love the way they’ve styled it here with these calm, neutral tones.
