I’m a New Englander- I was born here and have spent my entire life here. When I met my first truly Southern client, I asked her how she wanted her house to feel. She smiled and said, “Honey, as long as it feels like you want to come in and stay awhile”! And so I learned about Southern hospitality! Southerners take great pride in their history and the quality and workmanship that goes into every item in their home. Heirloom pieces are not unusual – in fact they are the norm! So, in curating this blog I looked for things that were welcoming, beautiful, and would stand the test of time, all while being new, fresh, and functional!! Here are my picks for American Design: Southern Charm!
I just couldn’t resist this beautiful lacquered chinoiserie with those amazing magnolia blossoms! But the best part of Corbett Wright items is the functionality. These pieces open up to allow for technology, complete with holes for power strips and concealed compartments for cord storage. Just LOVE it!!
Bunny Williams designs are beautiful and elegant, as evidenced in this Sofa and Chair. The attention to detail and soft curves make this piece a true “Southern Belle Sofa”, and Charlie definitely has the best seat in the house! I love it paired with the Bungalow 5 side cabinet below!
Serena and Lily have the most beautiful colors and these stools just show them off! Add a couple of these to your room to put your feet up and relax! Love the detailing in the base as well.
What a beautiful addition to your bedroom – simple, elegant lines, but just looks sooo comfy!
I love the dainty feel of this floral sphere lamp from Kouboo. It would be lovely on a small hall table or entry, don’t you think?
Although toile is technically French, it is so Southern in its salute to Colonial Williamsburg. I love the sweeping blue and white toile used in these Country Curtains – not fussy or stuffy, just welcoming!
I saw this console table from Currey and Company and could just picture it in a Louisiana estate! It’s grand and overstated and absolutely gorgeous!!
Ben Moore Quiet Moments is the perfect soft Southern color to tie everything together.
I’m not a Southern girl, but what do you think?? Would you put these pieces in your Southern home?
