FALSE!  Take a look around your house at your hardware – cabinet pulls, doorknobs, hinges, light fixtures – chances are, your builder chose the same finish for all.  But does that mean everything you bring into your house has to be the same as well?  Not anymore – and this is one design myth I’m happy to see broken.

There are ways to bring mixed metals into your room that will be beautiful and fun.  But how do you do it?  Does every metal work together?  I think the style of the pieces is more important than the color of the metals.  If you have pieces that complement each other, don’t worry about the finish…  And complement doesn’t mean match!  The same way we coordinate colors and add an accent color holds true for metals.  If you have stainless steel finishes, perhaps a mirror in a brass finish would work.  Or, if you have brushed nickel, maybe you may want to try some pieces with an oil rubbed bronze finish!

Here are some examples we love to give you some ideas!

Love the gold finish on the mirror with the silver on the table and fireplace!

Sometimes different versions of a metal finish, like this antique gold mirror and shiny frame.

The legs of the table and the legs of the chair don’t have to match!!
