For all of you Californians, I’m envious!! I just returned from a fabulous trip to your beautiful state. We started in San Diego (look for blogs on this soon!) visiting Jillian and went north up the coast mixing a little business with pleasure. One of our stops was a must- see tour of the legendary Hearst Castle.
It all started in 1919 when William Randolph Hearst inherited 250,000 acres of breathtaking vistas and sought to transform it into a retreat called “La Cuesta Encantada” – Spanish for “Enchanted Hill”.
Together with architect Julia Morgan, Hearst Castle was born. Built to Mr. Hearst’s very definitive specifications, its 165 rooms are home to his legendary art collection, as well as, perhaps, the most unique and priceless ceilings brought to the Castle from around the world.
As you tour the Castle’s many rooms and gardens, you could almost transform yourself back in time and feel the glamour of what the Castle must have felt like in its day – filled with dignitaries, movie stars, and personalities from around the world. But, what struck me the most was that Mr. Hearst was an ordinary man, who just happened to be very wealthy!
Take a step back in time and tour the Hearst Castle through pictures. And if you ever have the opportunity, make sure to add it to your list of must-sees!!
