HighPoint Market is always a great opportunity to see the new lines and trends in home decor. Vendors try out their new products at Market to gauge the response from buyers and designers. My favorite part of Market is visiting as many showrooms as I can fit in (both favorites and new finds), and trying to come up with the trends that are emerging. This year, I was so happy to have Jillian join me- she has joined the team at Susan Hayward Interiors, and together we have come up with our 5 Design Trends for 2017!
1. Quartz
Stone has always been popular, but this year we saw so much quartz. It appeared in everything from lighting, to case goods, to decorative items. I think we liked it on lighting best, as it gave the quartz a shimmer that was much more subtle than crystal, but not any less beautiful!
2. Gold
Sorry everyone, but I think the days of brushed nickel finishes have been “outshined”. We saw lots of polished nickel, silver, and gold. The gold was what struck us the most- it had such a beautiful tone to it, not the brassy look of the 80’s!
3. Tassels
Home decor follows fashion, and nothing has been more evident in fashion as have tassels. We’ve seen them in jewelry and on clothes, and now they’re on lights, bedding, and furniture. We loved the look: Bohemian with a classy edge!
4. Distressed Finishes
Yes, distressed finishes have been around for awhile. This year there were a lot more creamy whites and softer colors, making the look much more European, and less rustic.
5. Velvet
Nothing else feels quite like velvet, and this year velvet was everywhere. The new velvets are much more user-friendly with teflon-type finishes to roll that glass of red wine right off (and on to your beautiful rug?). Oh well, can’t have everything!
Overall, we came away from High Point with a feeling of classy elegance. Quartz, gold, tassels, distressed finishes and velvets – beautiful and luxurious, but also welcoming and fresh. I can’t wait until 2017 to see if we were right! What trends are you most looking forward to seeing?
