Our Favorite Multi-Functional Furniture Designs

With all of the new improvements in technology in today’s world, it seems like we’re constantly being “wow’ed” by new innovations in functional design.  When space is limited (and let’s be honest, it is for most of us!), it’s crucial to make the most out of every sq. foot we have.   

The good news is that there are plenty of creative ways to make your furniture multi-functional.  This may save on space, money, and reduce clutter.  

We’ve rounded up a few of our favorites to show you some of the multi-functional furniture out there that we think could be the perfect solutions for many!

 

We came across this sofa last year when we were shopping for a client who needed a small sofa that could double as a chaise or daybed.  What we love most about this one is that the back cushions are weighted and totally mobile!  You can remove them completely to sprawl out, move them to the sides to become a daybed, or even mix and match angles for customized support.  It’s also available with tufted cushions- perfect for any style!

 

Many of us may not have the luxury of extra guest bedrooms but still want the option to have friends or family stay during a visit.  A trundle bed like this one is an added bonus.  Not only do you get a pull-out twin mattress, but the back cushions on the sofa are removable to double your extra sleep space!

 

Since the dogs in our family are too big to be on any furniture, we’re always lounging down on the floor with them for some cuddle time.  A foldable cushion like this would be perfect to sprawl out on during a movie, or unfold it only partially to have a nice cushy seat and back rest!

 

We are huge fans of modular coffee tables for so many reasons.  Many times you may need to change or move your tables while entertaining, and this one from Wisteria is a great combination of shapes and sizes.  The two end pieces can break apart to create end tables (and still leave a cocktail table in front of the sofa), or they can even be put together to create one large, round end table for somewhere else.  Genius!

 

We found this bar cabinet at Crate & Barrel for a client because we loved its versatility.  This bar on wheels has fold-out table space, and doors equipped with plenty of extra storage.  Compact, practical, and elegant!

 

If floor space is limited but you love this idea, you could even try a little fold-up wall shelf like this one.  Store your favorite drink inside and just fold down to serve when you’re ready!

 

Of course, the same concept can even apply to a desk, believe it or not!  Fold-up wall desks save on floor space, but still offer somewhere to work when you need it.  Pull up a side chair and get to it!

 

A leaning shelf desk, or a ladder desk, is a great way to create a home office space in an apartment.  Not only is it great for limited floor space, but it has shelves for extra storage to keep your supplies where you need them.

 

If you love to accessorize on your way out the door, then this mirror is for you.  Throw on your scarves, purses, hats, (and anything else!) and you are set to go.

 

At first glance you may think that this is just your average cocktail table and tray.  But if you were to slide the tray over, you’d see all the storage inside that you actually have- so sneaky!

 

A clear acrylic base allows for your storage cube to slide out, and a tray that doubles as either a lid to hide clutter, or a tray for on top of your coffee table.
