Sweater Weather That Isn’t Just For Your Wardrobe!

Yesterday in Boston it was 85 degrees, this morning it was 55!  Fall is in the air, and that means… sweater weather!  There’s nothing like a soft cozy sweater on a crisp day to warm you right up.  Why not switch up your home decor with some “sweaters” to cozy up your interiors as well?

One of my favorite “sweaters” is a fisherman knit afghan that my mom knitted for my bridal shower many years ago.  Every year it comes out with its long tassels, and finds a home draped over my sofa.  I like a cool house (even in the winter) so we use our throws a lot.

I like pillows to feel soft.  I love the old sweater look of this one.  It seems cable knit is in this year and it’s popping up on everything.  From pillows…

We’re seeing a lot of fringe this year in the clothing industry and that just filters right down to the home.

I love small ottomans.  They can be used as a footstool, an extra seat, or put a tray on it for an end table.  This one from Surya (who we love!) adds a little cozy to your room

These chairs have been in several of our blogs because I love them!  Thank you Mitchell Gold & Bob Williams-   I hope this trend continues!

Nothing seems warmer in the fall and winter than a cozy log cabin, and this bedding embodies just that.  The rustic design and that fuzzy pillow bring that cozy cabin design right to any home.

For a cleaner, simpler look, this bedding set from West Elm has the same cable knit feel, yet with a lighter weight design.

And of course, one of our favorites for rugs and cushions, Langdon Ltd. has the perfect shag textiles to add some warmth and fuzz to your room, and with lots of style!

We can’t wait for sweater weather to be in full swing, and with these picks for your home, it’s sure to be the coziest and most stylish season yet!

American Design: Cozy Cabins

When we started the idea of featuring American Design by regions of the US, it sounded like a great idea.  I got to indulge my crushes for my own Cape house in the Cape and Islands blog ,and loved creating some down home hospitality in the Southern Charm edition.  “Cozy cabins”, however, was a bit more challenging.  This past winter was one of the coldest and snowiest in New England history.  When it was finally over (maybe May??) I vowed to make the most of every beautiful summer day!  So doing a blog about cozy cabins in the middle of July forced me back into cold, snowy winter mode!!  Well, I turned my AC on high, wrapped myself in a blanket and was determined to get cozy and in the mood.  So with a cup of hot chocolate in hand, here I go….let’s get ready for those cozy, snowy nights!!!

What is cozier than this living room picture from Restoration Hardware.  I think this is the Fulham sofa with an amazing sherpa/faux fur cover.  The driftwood chandelier is just the right amount of “rustic” to balance the softness of that smushy, cozy sofa.

I’m always on the lookout for items that are creatively juxtaposed into something beautiful.  Saltwoods is a small family  owned business here in Boston.  They strive to create beautiful one of a kind pieces that truly are works of art.  This Kalli Coffee Table is made from “a rare cut of Northern California redwood, from remaining cut which were originally harvested in the early 1900’s.  Harvesting these trees is no longer allowed and only limited quantities are still around.   Each piece has its own unique shape and only a few are available.”  True craftsmanship!  And isn’t that what you think of when you think cozy cabins?!

I want to own a ski lodge just so I’d have a place to put this!  The etched slate inserts in the doors is what makes this piece truly unique.

What better way to dine than to have the entire family together around a hand crafted table made from salvaged wood!  I love the extensions on this one from New England Joinery.  These boards are all hand sanded and planed to create a truly custom crafted table.  When I see a salvaged wood table I can’t help but think, “Where that wood came from?  Was it an old barn? Or maybe another family table that has a history of its own!”

A nice sling chair is a great spot to take off those ski boots – maybe in a hallway or entry?  And yes, another salvaged wood piece – but this time a woodbeam turned chandelier.   This “rustic” salvaged piece is truly a unique and beautiful piece of lighting art.  I love the pairing with the wrought iron brackets.  This just might be one of my favorite pieces!

Accessories are like jewelry for the home.  This dinnerware is as pretty to look at as it is to use.  And the simple elegance of the Forged Hurricane from the Bunny Williams collection would “dress up” any dark corner!  Antique snowshoe sconces?  Why not!  How fun!!!

And now I lay me down to sleep, and in this deco-meets-chalet style bed it will be a sound one!  The grain of the rosewood creates such a beautiful patterning on the headboard, don’t you think??  Add some cozy flannel sheets and you’re all tucked in!

I’m always on the “hunt”  for a great mirror and this one is truly unique.  Nice wood carvings and even Papa Bear watching over you!!

And even your four footed family members need a cozy place to hunker down.  I know Rocco will love one of these someday, but not until he learns it’s not a chew toy!

So, time to turn off the AC, take off the blanket, swap the hot chocolate for a lemonade and head off to he beach!!
