5 Favorite Fall Finds (Under $25!)

This past weekend, I went apple picking with my family, and I officially feel like Fall has arrived (despite the Summer weather)!  While you might not have caramel apples, cider doughnuts, and pumpkins in your home every day, there are lots of ways to capture all the Fall feels in your decor- even on a budget!

While seasonal decor can be so fun and festive, no one wants to spend an arm and a leg on items you may only enjoy for a few short months.  We’ve harvested a list of our favorite picks for Fall, all for under $25!  Time to get shopping!

Not only is flannel the quintessential pattern of colder weather, this pillow from Pottery Barn is even reversible!  That means the same throw pillows will carry you fashionably right from Fall to Winter.  Mix and match, or reverse the cover whenever you’re ready for a change!

Back to the Table

Of all of the rooms in the house, none has seen such a drastic change in style over time as has the dining room.  The formal dining rooms that were only used on special occasions and holidays are virtually extinct in today’s lifestyle.  The den became the great room, and the kitchen became an open floor plan with many functions.  Kitchen tables were replaced by large islands.  Some of the changes were good, others not so much.

I never really understood the giant kitchen islands replacing the table.  As an Italian woman, there is nothing more important to me than family and food.  Somehow sitting all in a line facing the sink just seems so impersonal!  It’s not just about eating food, it’s about the entire dining experience.  Happily, the dining experience is back!  I’m getting more and more requests to redesign the eating area.  The very casual space is becoming a little more special.  We’re spending more time at home with friends, and the kitchen is now the “hub”, but we still want dining to be special.

Whether it be a table for 4, or one that can seat 12, an option exists for everyone.  Dining chairs can be matched, mismatched, upholstered, wood, metal or a combination of everything.  Here are some of our dining room inspirations to get you thinking about your dining space!

A bench seat and a table have so many possibilities!  Lots of room for diners, or a cozy place to curl up with a book!

Which Bed Is Right For You?

Do you watch tv in bed?  Or sit up and read?  Maybe you need an upholstered headboard.

Does your bed face a window with a beautiful view?  Maybe a headboard with a mirror.

Do you want your headboard to be a feature wall?  Try something unusual and artistic.

Are you short on space for nightstands?  Perhaps a headboard with attached small nightstands may fit in your space.

These are the first questions I ask my clients when I am designing a bedroom.  Your bed is one of the most important pieces of furniture in your home.  We spend 30% of our lives in bed.  After a good mattress, a solid bed to put it on is critical.  Once you’ve determined the function of your bed and headboard, then you determine the style – and there are so many to choose from.  Here are some of our favorites that just may inspire you to have the form that follows function and to get the perfect bed for a good night’s sleep!

Wacky Woods

There was a time when a wood floor meant oak strips, and a wood wall meant planking headboard.  Now we are finding all species of woods in all different places.  Installation can be as easy as peel and stick!  Veneers come in every species imaginable.  Here are some creative uses of wood to get your imagination flowing!

Flower Power

Maybe it’s because it’s summer and there are flowers everywhere,  I don’t know… but I’m seeing flowers in a whole new way right now.  We’ve written floral blogs before, but the flowers have never been as creative and realistic as the florals we’re currently seeing.

Take this gorgeous wall covering-  look at those flowers!  Yes, it’s bright, but a little goes a long way.  Take a little powder room to a whole new level.. .or bring back the accent wall in a fresh, new way!

Summer Window Treatments

Summer time means opening the windows and letting in the fresh, summer breeze.  It’s the perfect time to take down those heavy window treatments and lighten up with a fresh new palate.  Here are some of our favorites, that are priced to go easy on the wallet!

I was so inspired by a client who chose these gorgeous drapes from Pottery Barn, that I just couldn’t help myself to share with you my other favorite summer curtains!

How to Fill That Empty Wall Space in Any Room

One thing that can be so hard to find is the proper wall decor for each room in the house.  Some rooms may need one large statement piece, while for others, you may prefer several smaller items.  Whether you are looking for banners, wallpaper, murals, paintings, mosaics, or storage, we’ve pulled a few of our favorite ideas to help inspire your walls!

A knit banner is such a different and fun way to decorate a more narrow space on your wall.  This could go great in a hallway or bedroom, depending on your style!

One of my newe favorite products on the market are made by Stikwood.  If you love the look of natural wood, but want to have the ease of installing yourself and saving some serious dough, you have got to try these!  Peel, stick, and there you have it- the look AND texture of wood, just done easier!

The macramé look is back and better than ever!  I love these pieces for the bedroom, because they are super soft to lean back on (unlike a metal statement piece or rough headboard), and bring a relaxed look into the room.

Daylight Savings Time Life Savers

I have always loved Daylight Savings Time.  The idea of having one extra hour of light every day usually perks me up out of the winter doldrums and gets me ready for spring.  But this year, things are different.  We are a few days in, and I am barely making it through the day!  What’s going on!?

Maybe it’s the fact that Boston weather has gone from 60 degrees to 40 degrees in a matter of hours.  Perhaps it’s seeing my daffodils ready to bloom only to watch them get pummeled with hail!  Whatever the problem, whatever the side of the Daylight Savings Time debate you’re on, the clock rules our lives.  So why not make them beautiful?

Here are some that we love and we hope you do, too.  From tabletop to floor, there’s something for everyone to help keep your time straight!

Vanity Tables Do Double Duty

“Where can I put on my makeup?”  That’s one of the first questions I get when designing master bedrooms and baths.   Sometimes we can add some space to the vanity, sometimes it’ll go in the bedroom, and most of the time it has the capacity to serve many functions.  Some of these vanities that we love have fun ideas that may just inspire you to change up yours!

Try adding a larger tilt mirror to your vanity to serve as a full length mirror.

Are We Seeing A Dining Room Revival?

The past decade has seen such a change in the way we live, and our homes have changed along with us.  We saw the rise of the Great Room and the fall of the formality in the way we dine.  2016 is shaping up as the year of the “Return of the Dining Room”.  But, it’s not your grandmother’s formal, Downton Abbey-esque dining experience…

Today’s dining room is fun, “fancy”, and exciting.  Since we don’t use the room as often as other spaces, it’s an opportunity to try something a little different, and maybe to head out of your comfort zone a little bit.  Here are some “not your grandmother’s dining rooms” that have pizazz, comfort, and color!

This is like a fresh breath of Spring.  Yes, wallpaper is back, and there is no better room to bring it back with than your dining room.  The traditional brass chandelier is gone and replaced by a variety of unique lighting options!
